Assistant Director and Lecturer
NUS Graduate School for Integrative Sciences and Engineering, NUS

Dr Rafi Rashid is currently an Assistant Director and Lecturer at NUS.

Prior to joining SCELSE in November 2013, Rafi was a Research Fellow for one year at the School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He completed his Bachelor of Science with Honours at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2006 and his PhD at the NUS Graduate School for Integrative Sciences and Engineering (NGS) in 2013. In his final PhD year, he became a research assistant in the Department of Bioengineering at NUS. His research background is in biophysics and bioengineering, and includes the following areas: (1) microscopy (2) fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) (3) macromolecular crowding as a tool for enhancing cell proliferation and extracellular matrix deposition (4) stem cell biology (5) use of polymers for drug delivery (6) use of FCS to measure diffusion of peptide probes in the cell membrane (7) cell-free systems, such as supported lipid bilayers and giant unilamellar vesicles (8) use of the zebrafish embryo as a model organism for tracking the fate of drug delivery polymers.
