Dr Viduthalai Rasheedkhan REGINA
Research Fellow

At SCELSE, Dr Viduthalai Rasheedkhan Regina focuses on studying bacteria in multi-species biofilms in order to gain knowledge on the ecology and community interactions in the biofilms.

Prior to joining SCELSE, Viduthalai was a postdoc at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) in Aarhus University (Denmark), where he also did his PhD studies. At iNANO, he studied the role of extracellular DNA in mediating the initial adhesion of bacteria to abiotic surfaces, and was involved in developing surfaces with enzymes and nanoparticles to prevent bacterial adhesion and subsequent biofilm formation. Viduthalai also studied the microbiota of biofilms, and raw milk from Danish dairy farms and dairy processing equipment so as to identify and quantify sources of contamination in raw milk. Before starting his PhD, he worked as a junior research fellow at the National Institute of Ocean Technology and National Center for Cell Sciences in India, where he studied bacteria that thrive in various natural and man-made environments, focussing on their diversity, antibiotic resistance, and biofilm formation.
