Mark was previously a research fellow at the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART), where he tested novel immunomodulatory compounds for their effect on intracellular survival of bacteria in macrophages. During his PhD studies at Queen's University Belfast in the UK, he characterised a novel regulator of antibiotic resistance in the Enterobacteriaceae, its associated genes, and studied their contribution to multidrug resistant phenotypes. Following his PhD, he was a research fellow at SCELSE, where he investigated E. faecalis immune suppression of macrophages and prophage dynamics. Mark has returned to SCELSE to continue his work on the virulence mechanisms of E. faecalis.
