Dr Micaela Mossop is a postdoctoral research fellow at SCELSE, working under the supervision of Prof Cynthia Whitchurch. Her research investigates how Pseudomonas aeruginosa responds to antibiotics across different bacterial lifestyles and biofilm models. She completed her PhD in Clinical Microbiology at Imperial College London, jointly supervised by Dr Laura Nolan and Prof Jane Davies. Her doctoral work examined interactions between Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in polymicrobial biofilms, focusing on chronic lung infections in people with cystic fibrosis. This involved developing laboratory and statistical models to better represent clinically relevant environments and the impact of chronic co-infections.
At SCELSE, Micaela is developing experimental assays to tackle urgent challenges such as antimicrobial resistance. She aims to bridge microbiology and translational science, using insights into bacterial behaviour in complex environments to inform better treatment strategies.
