James is Assistant Director for Business Development and Partnership, a part of SCELSE’s business development team. He brings over a decade of experience in translational R&D, technology innovation, and strategic partnership development across academia, industry, and government. Before taking on this role, James was Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS), where he led a deep tech startup, driving prototype validation and pilot collaborations with industry partners, and served as Principal Investigator at SCELSE. He has led multidisciplinary research programmes spanning molecular diagnostics, biofilm science, and biomimetic model systems. James’s forte lies in bridging scientific discovery with market-driven innovation. With extensive experience in research translation, venture creation, and ecosystem building, he aims to strengthen SCELSE’s position as a national leader in biofilm and microbiome innovation and cross-sector collaboration. James holds a PhD in medical science from Lund University (Sweden) and is a trained materials scientist.
