SCELSE Facilities
SCELSE Analytical Testing Facility
The SCELSE Analytical Testing Facility provides chemical and biochemical testing services for researchers and industry partners/collaborators.
Our services support:
- Scientific research / product development / process optimisation
- Method development / optimisation / validation
- Sample testing across a range of applications
The facility is equipped with advanced analytical instruments operated by experienced personnel. This enables us to deliver accurate , reliable and timely results across different sample types. The team supports multidisciplinary projects across a wide range of research fields. Our analyses help users evaluate samples, confirm findings, and support the development of products and processes.
Analytical Expertise
Our team has expertise in:
- Chemical and biochemical analysis across diverse sample types and matrices
- Applying relevant regulatory requirements / internationally recognised standards / industry guidelines
Instrument Maintenance and Quality
All analytical instruments undergo regular preventive maintenance by certified field service engineers from the respective manufacturers.
This helps to:
- Maintain instrument performance / data consistency
- Reduce equipment downtime
- Support relevant industry standards / Current Good Manufacturing Practice requirements, where applicable
Available Analytical Instrumentation

1. High-Performance Liquid Chromatography
The High-Performance Liquid Chromatography systems are equipped with:
- Ultraviolet/Diode Array Detector — UV/DAD
- Fluorescence Detector — RF
- Refractive Index Detector — RID
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography, or HPLC, is used to separate / identify / quantify compounds in complex mixtures. During analysis, a liquid sample passes through a chromatographic column under high pressure. Compounds are separated based on their interactions with the stationary phase and mobile phase.
HPLC can be used to analyse a broad range of chemical and biochemical compounds.

2. Gas Chromatography
The Gas Chromatography (GC) systems are equipped with the following detectors:
- Mass Spectrometry — MS
- Flame Ionisation Detector — FID
- Thermal Conductivity Detector — TCD
- Electron Capture Detector — ECD
Gas Chromatography, or GC, is used to separate / identify / quantify volatile and semi-volatile compounds.
During analysis, an inert carrier gas transports vaporised compounds through a chromatographic column. The compounds are separated based on their interactions with the gas phase and stationary phase. The detector used will depend on the sample type / compounds of interest / testing requirements.

3. Total Organic Carbon Analysis
A Total Organic Carbon, or TOC, analyser measures organic carbon in aqueous samples.
TOC analysis can support:
- Environmental monitoring / water-quality assessment
- Process evaluation / pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Organic contamination testing / regulatory compliance
