SCELSE will host inaugural Biophysics of Biofilms Symposium featuring prominent international experts (14 July)
12 July 2016

SCELSE will host a Biophysics of Biofilms Symposium, on 14 July, 2016 featuring a lineup of prominent international speakers discussing the interface of disciplines involving biophysical principles in the growth and development of microbial biofilms.

Biofilm research is gaining much from technologies that can track biofilm cells and microscopic processes live and at high resolution thus producing high-density datasets.

Quantitative approaches derived from physics will be discussed, in relation to understanding how interactions of complex molecular systems lead to the collective organisation and dynamics that we see during biofilm development. Both fundamentals and research frontiers will be covered during the symposium, which features seminars and Q&A sessions.

Invited speakers presenting at the symposium include Gerard C. L. Wong (California NanoSystems Institute, UCLA); Ramin Golestanian (Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics, University of Oxford); and Berenike Maier (Physics Department, University of Cologne). Their presentation abstracts are available HERE.

The Biophysics of Biofilms Symposium is an open event.

Date: Thursday, 14 July 2016

Time: 2:00 - 6:00pm

Venue: Experimental Medicine Building, Learning Studio (Level 1), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
