Implementation of biophysical tools to probe the physiochemical properties of the biofilm matrix, such as particle tracking and micro-rheology. Such approaches are helpful in determining structure-function relationships that will contribute widely to the field of microbial ecology. The development of novel micro-mechanical devices for the study and manipulation of the biofilm matrix. These devices are applicable in wide range of industries e.g. water filtration systems, food processing systems and bioreactors.
