Dr Irina Bessarab is a senior research fellow in the Integrative Analysis Unit under supervision of Dr Rohan Williams. She completed her PhD in molecular biology in Shemyakin Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences and later moved to Taiwan where she continued her research in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Immunology, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Academia Sinica. At SCELSE, her work is mainly focused on analyses of microbial communities from built and engineered environments, using a combination of molecular and imaging-based methods. Irina has extensive experience in the use of long read sequencing methods for metagenome and comparative genomic analysis.
