Dr Liu Xianghui is a bioinformatician and research fellow in SCELSE’s Biofilms & Health cluster, under the supervision of Prof. Alain Filloux. His research involves analysing the RNA-seq and DNA-seq data to understand biofilm development processes and mixed species biofilm communities in the marine environment, on human skin, in the home or in wastewater treatment systems. Prior to joining Prof. Filloux’s team, he worked in Dr Rohan William’s group on enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) and anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) under tropical conditions. His work contributes to understanding mechanisms of biofilm formation, recovery of high quality genomic information for rare and uncultured bacteria species in biofilm and wastewater samples and increases knowledge about the diverse roles of microorganisms in ecology, evolution, human and animal health.
