Dr Poulomi Sarkar is a SCELSE research fellow in the Environmental Engineering cluster, under A/Prof Sanjay Swarup’s supervision. She specialises in biotechnology, bioinformatics, and metagenomics for characterisation of environmental microbes and harnessing their potential for development of sustainable technologies. She was awarded PhD in biotechnology at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 2019. She started her post-doctoral research at Indian Agricultural Research Institute in 2021. Poulomi subsequently worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology from 2021 to 2022. Her research achievements include genome-wide surveillance and detection of different SARS-CoV-2 variants from West Bengal region in India during COVID-19 pandemic.
