Hoon Hui Yi joined SCELSE as a research assistant under Professor Stefan Wuertz in the Environmental Engineering Cluster. Her research focuses on the microbial identification of microbial communities in wastewater treatment and processes in bioreactors. After graduating from Nanyang Technological University with an honours degree in Biological Sciences in 2015, she was a microbiologist at Novartis Technical Operations till 2018. In SCELSE, she was part of the research on Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal and found a new group of microorganisms that accumulate polyphosphate. She has also assisted in the microbial single cell protein project which has progressed from lab scale to pilot scale.
