SCELSE is proud to re-instate the Biofilms & Health cluster which investigates societal and health problems posed by bacterial biofilms and microbiome dysbiosis.

This cluster will harness its experts’ knowledge on key molecular mechanisms that underpins the biofilm, while leveraging its deep understanding of the recalcitrance of this bacterial population to medical treatment, to prevent and treat chronically established and antimicrobial resistant biofilms.

Background
In 2020, Prof Michael Givskov stood down as SCELSE research director and head of the Public Health & Medical Biofilms cluster, having established and led the cluster since SCELSE’s inception in 2011.

In the interim, the Public Health & Medical Biofilms researchers joined the Biofilm Biology cluster, but are now members of Biofilms & Health, along with Prof. Givskov who continues on at SCELSE as a visiting scientist.

Under this revised structure, we look forward to continuing the integrative, multidisciplinary research that SCELSE is renowned for.
