SCELSE research fellow, Dr Sakcham Bairoliya, from A/Prof Cao Bin’s group, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Young Investigator Award by the Center for Biofilm Engineering (CBE) at Montana State University. This award is a testament to Dr Bairoliya’s groundbreaking work on biofilm-disinfectant interaction in drinking water systems.
Dr Bairoliya’s research focuses on extracellular persistent biomolecules like DNA and RNA released due to biofilm-disinfectant interactions. His work enhances methods for molecular monitoring of drinking water while providing novel insights into drinking water ecology and microbial processes, aiding microbial survival even in the presence of disinfectants.
For further details on Dr Bairoliya’s research, please refer to his published papers:

This recognition is particularly significant as each year, only two exceptional early career researchers from outside Montana State University receive this honour, acknowledging their outstanding contributions to biofilm research.
Dr Bairoliya presented his findings at the renowned CBE Biofilm Meeting to a diverse audience of scientists and industry representatives from around the world. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr Bairoliya on this remarkable achievement!
