SCELSE congratulates Dr Ezequiel Santillan and Dr Soheil Neshat, co-founders of LoopForBio, as one of five start-ups selected from 123 submissions for the inaugural Activate Global Fellows – Singapore cohort.

An NTU spin-off originating from SCELSE, LoopForBio is developing a sustainable approach to aquaculture feed by transforming nutrient-rich food-processing by-products into microbial protein.

Its technology has the potential to reduce reliance on conventional fishmeal, supporting more sustainable food production and contributing to global food security. Trials involving fish and shrimp have demonstrated that LoopForBio’s microbial protein can replace a substantial proportion of fishmeal while maintaining growth and feed performance.

Hosted by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), in partnership with Activate, the fellowship will support the five selected start-ups with up to S$200,000 in funding and stipend support, as well as mentorship and opportunities to connect with customers, investors and industry partners in the United States.

LoopForBio’s selection highlights how SCELSE research is moving from the laboratory into real-world solutions for sustainable food production and global food security.

The fellowship will provide LoopForBio with opportunities to further develop its technology, build international connections and explore pathways to scale its innovation globally.
