Dr Cheng Dan
Senior Research Fellow
Environmental Engineering cluster, SCELSE-NTU
Email: chengdan@ntu.edu.sg
She received her PhD from National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2011 and disclosed an unusual dechlorination pathway. This was followed by postdoctoral research at NUS from 2009 to 2013. During 2014-2016 she was a research scientist at Evoqua Water Technologies Global R&D Centre in Singapore, dealing with energy-saving main-stream anammox process. Prior to joining SCELSE, Dan worked as senior postdoctoral associate with Prof Andrew Whittle (MIT) in SMART from 2016 to 2018. She has established testbeds in two campus drinking water distribution systems to understand the factors shaping young and mature bacterial biofilm communities in those two testbeds. Her research at SCELSE focuses on understanding the association between the drinking water quality and the growth of biofilms along drinking water pipelines that operate continuously or intermittently. Her highlighted works include understanding the microbial community changes in intermittent water supply systems and application of flow-cytometry based fingerprinting approaches to identify the deviating events.
