IWA (India) Webinar Series – Dr Ezequiel Santillan

Catch #SCELSE senior research fellow Dr Ezequiel Santillan at the IWA India Webinar Series – Lecture on understanding the Complex Microbial Communities in Activated Sludge.
Date: 31 July 2021 (Saturday)
Time: 5:00 p.m. Indian Standard Time (SGT 7.30pm)

Abstract Brief

It has been more than 100 years since the Activated Sludge (AS) for biological remediation of sewage was described by Ardern and Lockett.
For a long time, the microbial communities of biological wastewater treatment plants have been viewed as blackboxes, with their structure and assembly mechanisms largely unknown.
Recent advances in sequencing technologies and microbial ecology techniques allow us to explore these systems as the complex communities of living organisms interacting with each other and with the environment that they are, that is, understand their ecology.
This lecture will focus on the function, structure and assembly of microbial communities in activated sludge under and after disturbances.”
