Su Xuan joined SCELSE as a Research Assistant under A/Prof. Rebecca Case’s supervision in the Biofilm Biology cluster. Her work is aimed at utilizing microalgae as an alternative nutrition source. To do so, she performs extensive screenings of microalgae for metabolites, to understand their optimal growth conditions and interactions with various strains from the Roseobacteraceae family. During her undergraduate career, Su Xuan’s research focused on characterizing the invertebrate meiofaunal communities living on macroalgae, in relation to the host’s species and morphology. Her other research topics include characterising zooplankton diversity.
